Org. Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment's Economy Division works with International and nongovernmental organizations, national and local governments, business and industry to develop and implement policies, strategies and practices that are cleaner and safer, incorporate environmental costs, use natural resources efficiently, reduce pollution and risks for humans and the environment, and enable the implementation of conventions and international agreements. Located within the UN Environment's Economy Division, the Resources and Markets Branch seeks to conserve the environment, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development by enhancing the capacity of governments, businesses, and civil society to integrate environmental considerations into economic, trade, and financial policies and practices in accordance with integrated policy-making approaches of sustainable development. Over the past years, the focus of Resources and Markets Branch has been UN Environment’s work related to Green Economy.

The Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) was conceived in Rio+20 in response to the call to support those countries wishing to embark on greener and more inclusive growth trajectories through the three economic, environmental and social pillars of sustainability. PAGE seeks to put sustainability at the heart of economic policies and practices to advance the 2030 Agenda by providing foundation for delivery and achieving SDGs and national efforts to address climate change. Bringing together the expertise of five UN agencies – the UN Environment, the International Labour Organization (ILO), the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) - PAGE has been assisting partner countries to embark on inclusive green economy trajectories since 2013. Currently, eleven countries are officially included into the Partnership and receive direct support from PAGE: Barbados, Brazil (Mato Grosso State), Burkina Faso, China (Jiangsu Province), Ghana, Kyrgys Republic, Mauritius, Mongolia, Peru, Senegal and South Africa.
